Some websites sell products. Some generate leads. Others help preserve places that deserve to exist for future generations.

When Save the Maah Daah Hey approached Coulee Creative, the goal was not simply to modernize an outdated website. It was to create a digital home worthy of one of America’s most iconic trail systems while supporting the volunteers who have spent more than a decade protecting it.

About Save the Maah Daah Hey

The Maah Daah Hey Trail stretches through the rugged North Dakota Badlands, connecting breathtaking landscapes, public lands, and outdoor adventures unlike anywhere else in the country.

Since 2013, Save the Maah Daah Hey has become the trail’s primary nonprofit steward, organizing volunteer trail maintenance, coordinating restoration efforts, supporting public agencies, and advocating for the long-term future of this incredible resource.

The Challenge

The previous website no longer reflected the scale of the organization’s impact. Visitors needed a clearer understanding of what Save the Maah Daah Hey does, why the trail matters, how volunteers make a difference, and how to donate, volunteer, or become a member.

Our Approach

Rather than treating the website like an online brochure, we focused on creating an experience. Every section was designed to answer the questions a new visitor naturally has: What is the Maah Daah Hey Trail? Why should I care? What impact is STMDH making? How can I help?

Photography takes center stage throughout the site, allowing the Badlands to tell part of the story while concise messaging guides visitors toward meaningful action.

Designed Around the Mission

The new website emphasizes the organization’s greatest strengths: volunteer-driven stewardship, conservation and trail restoration, community involvement, strategic partnerships, education, advocacy, membership, and donations.

Whether someone discovers the organization through social media, a Google search, or word of mouth, the website now provides a clear path to becoming part of the mission.

Built for Growth

Behind the scenes, the site was developed with long-term flexibility in mind. As Save the Maah Daah Hey expands its volunteer programs, events, fundraising efforts, and educational resources, the website provides a scalable foundation that can evolve alongside the organization.

Because good conservation work does not stop, and neither should the tools supporting it.

A Project We’re Proud Of

Some client projects help businesses grow. Others help preserve something much bigger.

Working with Save the Maah Daah Hey gave us the opportunity to support an organization protecting one of America’s truly unique landscapes. We’re honored to play a small role in helping them inspire more volunteers, strengthen their community, and ensure the Maah Daah Hey Trail remains accessible for generations to come.

If your organization needs a website that does more than look good, we’d love to help.
